Where to Buy Enamel Jewelry

If enamel jewelry makes you think of your dowdy Great Aunt Rose, you haven't been keeping up with the trends. Recently, the centuries-old material (a powdered glass that's melted into liquid, then painted onto metals, ceramics or fabrics) has been given a mod-inspired makeover. The new look -- bright colors, big surfaces, chunky, often heavy pieces -- has been sighted gracing the necks and wrists of stars including Gwen Stefani and Heather Graham. Here's where you can get your own. POP. 1803-A 14th St. NW. 202-332-3312. www.shoppop.com. Much of enamel's comeback can be traced to Elissa Ehlin and Jay Leritz, the design duo who started Kiln Enamel Works in Brooklyn, N.Y. Locally, their bright, pop art pieces -- including triangle earrings and '70s-esque medallion necklaces -- are found exclusively at Pop. Prices range from $26 for earrings to $120 for a necklace.
